Noto is the capital of Baroque and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. The city is perched on a plateau covered with citrus groves.
Upon entering Noto through the Porta Reale, the Royal Gate, you will find yourself on the main street that crosses the entire historic centre: Corso Vittorio Emanuele.
Follow it for about a hundred metres. On your left is the Church of Santa Chiara. Enter the former convent of the Clarisse and step out onto its panoramic terrace to admire the imposing Noto Cathedral and the historic centre.
Noto Cathedral, or the Basilica di San Nicolò, has a stunning late Baroque façade. The warm colours of the limestone from which it is built are on fire at sunset, giving you unique emotions. In front of the steps of the Basilica, the elegant Palazzo Ducezio, seat of Noto's Town Hall, rises in all its beauty and grandeur.
A few steps away is the Palazzo dei Principi Nicolai, another magnificent gem of Baroque art. The balconies are an interweaving of wrought-iron works and wonderful silhouettes carved in stone. The luxurious interior of the palace is also very beautiful.
The squares of the city further enhance the urban fabric, giving you space to admire your surroundings.
These are just some of the essential sights to see in Noto, but the city reserves hidden treasures at every turn. What are you waiting for? Come and discover them!
